Here you will find everything that you need to register, schedule and train for your HECM exam. There are five steps to complete the HECM Exam process:

- Registration - Create an account and Pay for exam (via MasterCard, VISA, Discover, or American Express)
- Schedule an exam date
- Prepare for the exam
- Take the exam

HECM Certification Exams in English and Spanish Language are now available on new platform
(Date Announced: August 8th, 2019)
Effective from August 8th, 2019, Certification and Practice exams are available in both English and Spanish languages on new testing platform.
You can view the new registration instructions.
Students who already purchased and scheduled certification exams will continue to use the legacy platform. All new certification exam purchases are available on new platform only.
Note:Exam contents on legacy and new testing platform are exactly the same. Exam preparation materials remain the same as before.

Microsoft Explorer is no longer supported for purchasing or accessing certification exams.
Google Chrome is the preferred browser for proctoring sessions.
Windows users can also use Mozilla Firefox or

Preparing for Exam

List of resources to Prepare for Exam have been updated. Students are recommended to review them before taking the HECM Counselor Exam.

Mortgagee Letters related to Home Equity Conversion Mortgage program

HECM Counselor Exams have been updated. Some of the Mortgagee letters that contain HECM program related updates are listed here.
This list is periodically updated but may not be comprehensive. Hence, students are recommended to
review all relevant HUD Mortgagee Letters before taking the HECM Counselor Exam.
Recommended review time before retaking the exam
(Date Announced: January 19, 2016)
While HUD does not mandate a waiting period, it is recommended that all examinees review the exam material
and wait at least one week before retaking the exam to allow themselves adequate time to fully prepare. If a test taker's score is 10 points or more below a
passing score of 80, the recommended review period is two weeks.
