5) As a member of the HUD-HECM network, I would be approved to offer telephone counseling on an unrestricted, nationwide basis. Does this mean that I would be required to do so?

7) Some of the counselors in my agency took this exam before. Do they have to take it again?
Answer: Any counselor who is currently a member of the HUD HECM National Counselors Network does not have to retake the exam at present. (You are currently a network member if you have a current and active username and password to the Network's website at www.hecmcounselors.org.) All other counselors who want to become a member of the HUD HECM counseling network must take the HECM Counselor Exam and meet the qualifying score to participate.
8) When I call Thomson Prometric to schedule my exam, they say they are not giving the HUD HECM Counselor Exam. What should I do?
Answer: When calling Thomson Prometric to schedule your exam, use the information on the Exam Authorization Letter you got when you registered. Be sure to have this Letter in front of you when you call, and use the exact words in the Letter to schedule your exam. For example, you must request the "Net 2" exam rather than the AARP exam, HECM exam, HUD exam, or Edgia exam.
10) Do you provide training for this exam?
Answer: No. Our consulting psychometrician (testing expert) has cautioned us against "teaching to the test" or providing exam-oriented assistance that is not generally available to everyone preparing to take the exam. The assistance we provide is the information on Basic Information, Exam Content, Sample Questions, and Study Materials in the Exam Guide on this site.
11) Where can a counselor get basic HECM training?
Answer: NeighborWorks America offers a generic (that is, not exam-oriented) 2-day live Basic HECM counselor training and a 1-day advanced course for counselors who have already taken the 2-day course. For details, see http://www.nw.org/network/training/training.asp
12) To pay for my exam I need a credit card. But I don't have one and neither does my agency. How can I pay for the exam?
